Identification of glioblastoma stem cell-associated lncRNAs using single-cell RNA-sequencing datasets

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive, heterogeneous grade IV brain tumor. Glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) initiate the tumor and are known culprits of therapy resistance. Mounting evidence has demonstrated a regulatory role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in various biological processes, including pluripotency, differentiation, and tumorigenesis. A few studies have suggested that aberrant expression of lncRNAs is associated with GSCs. However, a comprehensive single-cell analysis of the GSC-associated lncRNA transcriptome has not been carried out.

Analysis of donor pancreata defines the transcriptomic signature and microenvironment of early pre-neoplastic pancreatic lesions

The adult healthy human pancreas has been poorly studied given lack of indication to obtain tissue from the pancreas in the absence of disease and rapid postmortem degradation. We obtained pancreata from brain dead donors thus avoiding any warm ischemia time. The 30 donors were diverse in age and race and had no known pancreas disease. Histopathological analysis of the samples revealed PanIN lesions in most individuals irrespective of age.

Factors for risk stratification of patients with actinic keratosis using integrated analysis of clinicopathological features and gene expression patterns

Actinic keratosis (AK) is considered as precursor lesion of invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Molecular studies on AK are limited because of too small size of the biopsy specimen to obtain enough DNA or RNA.Twenty biopsy cases of AK, followed by second same-sited biopsies, were included. Ten cases were diagnosed with total regression (regression group), while the other 10 were diagnosed with invasive carcinoma (progression group) in the follow-up biopsies.

HES3 is a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that regulates neural stem cell renewal during development. HES3 overexpression is predictive of reduced overall survival in patients with fusion-positive rhabdomyosarcoma, a pediatric cancer that resembles immature and undifferentiated skeletal muscle. However, the mechanisms of HES3 cooperation in fusion-positive rhabdomyosarcoma are unclear and are likely related to her3/HES3's role in neurogenesis.

High expression of LGR6 is a poor prognostic factor in esophageal carcinoma

Leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein-coupled receptor 6 (LGR6) promotes carcinogenesis and progression in some cancer types. However, there are few reports of LGR6 expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). LGR6 expression and clinicopathological features in ESCC were investigated by RNAscope, a highly sensitive RNA in situ hybridization method.Appropriate tumors were selected from 41 cases of ESCC from which tissue microarrays were generated, and LGR6 expression was identified by RNAscope.Thirty-seven patients had LGR6 expression.

LncRNA T376626 is a promising serum biomarker and promotes proliferation, migration, and invasion via binding to LAMC2 in triple-negative breast cancer

Circulating long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to serve as biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. Here, we identified the clinical diagnostic value and biological function of lncRNA T376626 in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).A genome-wide lncRNA microarray was used to screen promising serum-based lncRNA biomarkers. The expression of candidate serum lncRNAs was validated in 282 breast cancer (BC) patients and 78 healthy subjects. The diagnostic value of serum lncRNA T376626 was determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

Porphyromonas gingivalis plays an oncogenic role in development and progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the impact of P. gingivalis on local recurrence of early ESCC or precancerous lesion after ESD treatment remains unknown. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of P. gingivalis on local recurrence after ESD treatment of early ESCC or high-grade dysplasia (HGD).The amount of P. gingivalis was assessed by immunohistochemistry in 205 patients with early ESCC or HGD.
