FKBP51 Immunohistochemical Expression: A New Prognostic Biomarker for OSCC?

Up-to-date, several molecular markers of prognosis have been studied in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC), but none entered in the clinical setting. Therapy of OSCC tumors mainly relies on surgery, radiotherapy and partially on chemotherapy; there is an urgent need for biomarkers able to better stratify OSCC patients' risk to address targeted therapeutic strategies.

The role of human papillomavirus (HPV) as an etiologic and transformational agent in inverted Schneiderian papilloma (ISP) is unclear. Indeed, reported detection rates of HPV in ISPs range from 0 to 100%. The true incidence has been confounded by a tendency to conflate high- and low-risk HPV types and by the inability to discern biologically relevant from irrelevant HPV infections.

Novel genes involved in pathophysiology of gonadotropin-dependent adrenal tumors in mice

Specific inbred strains and transgenic inhibin-α Simian Virus 40 T antigen (inhα/Tag) mice are genetically susceptible to gonadectomy-induced adrenocortical neoplasias. We identified altered gene expression in prepubertally gonadectomized (GDX) inhα/Tag and wild-type (WT) mice. Besides earlier reported Gata4 and Lhcgr, we found up-regulated Esr1, Prlr-rs1, and down-regulated Grb10, Mmp24, Sgcd, Rerg, Gnas, Nfatc2, Gnrhr, Igf2 in inhα/Tag adrenal tumors.

A ROR1–HER3–lncRNA signalling axis modulates the Hippo–YAP pathway to regulate bone metastasis

Bone metastases remain a serious health concern because of limited therapeutic options. Here, we report that crosstalk between ROR1-HER3 and the Hippo-YAP pathway promotes breast cancer bone metastasis in a long noncoding RNA-dependent fashion. Mechanistically, the orphan receptor tyrosine kinase ROR1 phosphorylates HER3 at a previously unidentified site Tyr1307, following neuregulin stimulation, independently of other ErbB family members.

Novel Assay to Detect RNA Polymerase I Activity in vivo.

This report develops an analytically validated chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) assay using branched DNA signal amplification (RNAscope) for detecting the expression of the 5' external transcribed spacer (ETS) of the 45S ribosomal (r) RNA precursor in formalin fixed and paraffin embedded (FFPE) human tissues.

Suppression of intestinal tumorigenesis in Apc mutant mice by Musashi-1 deletion.

Therapeutic strategies based on a specific oncogenic target are better justified when elimination of that particular oncogene reduces tumorigenesis in a model organism. One such oncogene, Musashi 1 (Msi-1), regulates translation of target mRNAs and is implicated in promoting tumorigenesis in colon and other tissues. Msi-1 targets include the tumor suppressor Adenomatous Polyposis Coli (Apc), a Wnt pathway antagonist lost in ∼80% of all colorectal cancers.
