Cancer

A targetable HB-EGF-CITED4 axis controls oncogenesis in lung cancer.

Aberrant epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor (EGFR) signaling contributes to neoplastic initiation and progression in lung. Mutated EGFR has become as an important therapeutic target in lung cancer, whereas targeted treatment is not available for wild-type EGFR or its ligands. In this study, we found that heparin-binding (HB)-EGF, a member of the EGF family, was highly expressed in a subset of lung cancer, proliferation of which was dependent on HB-EGF signaling.

RNA Chromogenic in situ Hybridization Assay with Clinical Automated Platform is a Sensitive Method in Detecting High-risk Human Papillomavirus in Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Detection of active human papillomavirus (HPV) is clinically important, as its presence has been shown to correlate with favorable clinical outcomes and better response to treatment in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (SCC). Using a clinical automated platform, we compared the performance of commercially available HPV DNA and RNA in situ hybridization (ISH) probes in archival tissues of 57 SCC.

Targeting BMI1+ Cancer Stem Cells Overcomes Chemoresistance and Inhibits Metastases in Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Squamous cell carcinoma in the head and neck (HNSCC) is a common yet poorly understood cancer, with adverse clinical outcomes due to treatment resistance, recurrence, and metastasis. Putative cancer stem cells (CSCs) have been identified in HNSCC, and BMI1 expression has been linked to these phenotypes, but optimal treatment strategies to overcome chemotherapeutic resistance and eliminate metastases have not yet been identified.

Cabozantinib Eradicates Advanced Murine Prostate Cancer by Activating Anti-Tumor Innate Immunity.

Several kinase inhibitors that target aberrant signaling pathways in tumor cells have been deployed in cancer therapy. However, their impact on the tumor immune microenvironment remains poorly understood.

Oncogenic S1P signalling in EBV-associated nasopharyngeal carcinoma activates AKT and promotes cell migration through S1P receptor 3

Undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a cancer with high metastatic potential that is consistently associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. In this study, we have investigated the functional contribution of sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) signalling to the pathogenesis of NPC.

Expression of erythropoietin and neuroendocrine markers in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of erythropoietin and neuroendocrine markers in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC). We retrospectively reviewed the medical records and re-evaluated histopathological specimens of 33 patients with CCRCC and compared with those of 11 cases of non-CCRCC. All patients were treated with a partial or radical nephrectomy at St. Olavs Hospital, Trondheim University Hospital, between 2010 and 2016.
