BS20 Dexamethasone inhibits opn-activation associated with intimal hyperplasia in vein grafts

BACKGROUND The long saphenous vein (LSV) is commonly utilised in CABG surgery to facilitate revascularisation. However, over time these grafts develop intimal hyperplasia (IH) and accelerated atherosclerosis, leading to stenosis and occlusion. A common feature of IH is vascular calcification (VC) within the affected vessel. Recently, the matricellular protein osteopontin (OPN) has been implicated in this process at endothelial injury sites in porcine models, but this has not been expanded to humans.

RESULTS We established that eNOS is a high shear stress marker both in healthy and diseased aorta and used this to compare the transcriptional profiles of EC exposed to high shear stress in health and disease. We performed scRNAseq analysis of aorta from Apoe-/- normal diet (ND; intermediate cholesterol) mice and Apoe-/- high fat diet (HFD; high cholesterol) mice. eNOShigh cells were selected for transcriptome analysis (Figure 1A).

The central amygdala (CeA) is a hub of stress and anxiety, with corticotropin releasing factor (CRF)-CRF1 receptor and GABAergic signaling dysregulation occurring in alcohol dependent male rodents.

Rustrela Virus Infection-A New Emerging Neuropathogen of Red-necked Wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus)

The rustrela virus (RusV) was recently described as a novel pathogen in a circumscribed area of northern Germany close to the Baltic Sea. Up to now, the virus has been detected in cases of fatal non-suppurative meningoencephalitis in zoo animals of different species and a single wild carnivore as well as in apparently healthy yellow-necked field mice ( Apodemus flavicollis). Data regarding the background of this previously undiscovered pathogen, including clinical presentation of the disease, host range, and distribution of the virus, are still limited.

Pathological involvement of placenta in COVID-19: a systematic review

The mammalian placenta, which is responsible for bonding between the mother and the fetus, is one of the first organs to develop. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has caused a great threat to public health and affected almost all the organs including the placenta. Owing to limited available data on vertical transmission and pathological changes in the placenta of SARS-CoV-2 positive patients, we aim to review and summarize histopathological and ultrastructural changes in the placental tissue following SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The importance of neurons and nerve fibers in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of solid tumors is now acknowledged after being unexplored for a long time; this is possible due to the development of new technologies that allow in situ characterization of the TME. Recent studies have shown that the density and types of nerves that innervate tumors can predict a patient's clinical outcome and drive several processes of tumor biology.

Qualitative investigation of µ- and κ-opioid receptor distribution in the brains of budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus)

OBJECTIVE To perform a qualitative analysis of the distribution of µ- and κ-opioid receptor mRNA in the forebrain and midbrain of budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus). SAMPLE 8 brains of male budgerigars. PROCEDURES Custom-made RNA hybridization probes (RNAscope; Advanced Cell Diagnostics Inc) were used for fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) assays performed on selected fresh frozen prepared sections of brain tissue to identify µ- and κ-opioid receptor mRNA.

Since the first description of cardiomyopathy syndrome (CMS) in Atlantic salmon, in 1985, the disease caused by piscine myocarditisvirus (PMCV) has become a common problem in Atlantic salmon farming, not only in Norway, but also in other salmon farming countries like Scotland and Ireland. In the last years, CMS has been ranked as the most important salmon viral disease in Norway regarding both mortality and economic losses.
