Effectiveness of radiation therapy on brain invasion by human papillomavirus-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinoma: A case report

Human papillomavirus (HPV)-related multiphenotypic sinonasal carcinoma (HMSC) is newly suggested and characterized by HPV-related tumors. HMSC has a relatively good prognosis. No cases of brain invasion have been reported to date. We encountered a case of brain invasion by HMSC, in which we assessed the effectiveness of radiotherapy in comparison with biopsy and autopsy. A 69-year-old man was referred to a hospital three months after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Contrast magnetic resonance imaging revealed a tumor in the ethmoid sinus involving the brain.

Comparison of the Clinicopathologic Features and T-Cell Infiltration of B7-H3 and B7-H4 Expression in Triple-negative Breast Cancer Subtypes

Previously we revealed an upregulated expression of B7-H3 and B7-H4 mRNA and protein in breast cancer, including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, little is known regarding the clinical impact and value of B7-H3 and B7-H4 in TNBC subtypes. Thus, this study evaluated the clinicopathologic effects of B7-H3 and B7-H4 mRNA and protein expression according to the TNBC subtypes. RNAscope in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry of B7-H3 and B7-H4 was done for 186 TNBC samples using tissue microarray.

The histologic and molecular correlates of liver disease in fatal COVID-19 including with alcohol use disorder

Hepatic disease is common in severe COVID-19. This study compared the histologic/molecular findings in the liver in fatal COVID-19 (n = 9) and age-matched normal controls (n = 9); three of the fatal COVID-19 livers had pre-existing alcohol use disorder (AUD). Controls showed a high resident population of sinusoidal macrophages that had variable ACE2 expression. Histologic findings in the cases included periportal/lobular inflammation. SARS-CoV2 RNA and nucleocapsid protein were detected in situ in 2/9 COVID-19 livers in low amounts.

Identification of high protein kinase CK2α in HPV(+) oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and correlation with clinical outcomes

Background Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) incidence is rising worldwide, especially human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated disease. Historically, high levels of protein kinase CK2 were linked with poor outcomes in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), without consideration of HPV status. This retrospective study examined tumor CK2α protein expression levels and related clinical outcomes in a cohort of Veteran OPSCC patient tumors which were determined to be predominantly HPV(+).

High mobility group AT-hook 2 regulates osteoblast differentiation and facial bone development

The mutation and deletion of high mobility group AT-hook 2 (Hmga2) gene exhibit skeletal malformation, but almost nothing is known about the mechanism. This study examined morphological anomaly of facial bone in Hmga2-/- mice and osteoblast differentiation of pre-osteoblast MC3T3-E1 cells with Hmga2 gene knockout (A2KO). Hmga2-/- mice showed the size reduction of anterior frontal part of facial bones. Hmga2 protein and mRNA were expressed in mesenchymal cells at ossification area of nasal bone.

Angiotensin II infusion results in both hypertension and increased AMPA GluA1 signaling in hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus of male but not female mice

The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) plays a key role in hypertension, however the signaling pathways that contribute to the adaptability of the PVN during hypertension are uncertain. We present evidence that signaling at the alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) GluA1 receptor subunit contributes to increased blood pressure in a model of neurogenic hypertension induced by 14-day slow-pressor angiotensin II (AngII) infusion in male mice.

AZD1222 (ChAdOx1 nCov-19): A Single-Dose biodistribution study in mice

Biodistribution studies of adenovirus-based vaccines support their clinical development by evaluating their spread and persistence following in vivo administration. AZD1222 (ChAdox1 nCov-19) is a replication-deficient non-human adenovirus-vectored vaccine for coronavirus disease 2019. In this nonclinical study, the biodistribution of AZD1222 was assessed in mice for 29 days following intramuscular injection.

The Role of Male Reproductive Organs in the Transmission of African Swine Fever—Implications for Transmission

African swine fever (ASF) has evolved from an exotic animal disease to a threat to global pig production. An important avenue for the wide-spread transmission of animal diseases is their dissemination through boar semen used for artificial insemination. In this context, we investigated the role of male reproductive organs in the transmission of ASF. Mature domestic boars and adolescent wild boars, inoculated with different ASF virus strains, were investigated by means of virological and pathological methods.
