Lymphangiocrine signals are required for proper intestinal repair after cytotoxic injury

The intestinal epithelium undergoes continuous renewal and has an exceptional capacity to regenerate after injury. Maintenance and proliferation of intestinal stem cells (ISCs) are regulated by their surrounding niche, largely through Wnt signaling. However, it remains unclear which niche cells produce signals during different injury states, and the role of endothelial cells (ECs) as a component of the ISC niche during homeostasis and after injury has been underappreciated.

The term EDV acanthoma may be applied to lesions with incidental findings of EDV-defining histopathological features without clinical signs of EDV.

Tlx3 controls the development of C-low threshold mechanoreceptors

Somatosensory information is signaled by primary sensory neurons located in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) or trigeminal ganglia. Type C-low threshold mechanoreceptors (C-LTMRs) are proposed to sense light touch. The differentiation and maturation of C-LTMRs are regulated by multiple transcript factors, including Zfp521 and Runx1. However, the molecular mechanism of C-LTMR development still remains largely unclear. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to detect transcriptional changes in Tlx3cko DRGs compared to controls. In situ hybridization and RNAscope were used to verify RNA-seq data.

The differential immune response in mild versus fatal SARS-CoV2 infection

This study compared the immune response in mild versus fatal SARS-CoV2 infection. Forty nasopharyngeal swabs with either productive mild infection (n = 20) or negative for SARS-CoV2 (n = 20) were tested along with ten lung sections from people who died of COVID-19 which contained abundant SARS-CoV2 and ten controls. There was a 25-fold increase in the CD3+T cell numbers in the viral positive nasopharyngeal swabs compared to the controls (p < 0.001) and no change in the CD3+T cell count in the fatal COVID-19 lungs versus the controls.

Expression of Cell-Cycle Regulatory Proteins pRb, Cyclin D1, and p53 Is Not Associated with Recurrence Rates of Equine Sarcoids

Sarcoids are among the most common tumors diagnosed in equids; their association with bovine papillomaviruses (BPV) infection has been widely reported, but the mechanism of carcinogenesis has not been fully elucidated. To verify whether BPV infection causes dysregulation of the pRb-Cyclin D1-p16CDKN2A-p53 pathway as reported for human papillomavirus (HPV), the study employed immunohistochemistry to test 55 equine sarcoid biopsies for the expression of pRb, Cyclin D1, and p53 cell cycle regulatory proteins and to evaluate the proliferative rate through Ki67.

A Review on Pathological and Diagnostic Aspects of Emerging Viruses-Senecavirus A, Torque teno sus virus and Linda Virus-In Swine

Swine production represents a significant component in agricultural economies as it occupies over 30% of global meat demand. Infectious diseases could constrain the swine health and productivity of the global swine industry. In particular, emerging swine viral diseases are omnipresent in swine populations, but the limited knowledge of the pathogenesis and the scarce information related to associated lesions restrict the development of data-based control strategies aimed to reduce the potentially great impact on the swine industry.

Light receptors in the avian brain and seasonal reproduction

Detection and transduction of photic cues by nonvisual photoreceptors, located in the deep brain, is a critical component of timing seasonal reproduction in birds. However, the precise identity of the photoreceptors responsible for detection of salient photic cues remains uncertain and debated. Here I review of the existing evidence for each of the three candidate photoreceptive opsins: Vertebrate Ancient Opsin, Melanopsin, and Neuropsin, including localization, action spectrum, and data from experimental manipulation of opsin expression.
