Clinical Importance of Placental Testing among Suspected Cases of Congenital Zika Syndrome.

Contemporaneous Zika virus (ZIKV) strains can cause congenital Zika syndrome (CZS). Current ZIKV clinical laboratory testing strategies are limited and include IgM serology (which may wane 12 weeks after initial exposure) and nucleic acid testing (NAT) of maternal serum, urine, and placenta for (+) strand ZIKV RNA (which is often transient).

Glutamatergic Neurokinin 3 receptor neurons in the median preoptic nucleus modulate heat-defense pathways in female mice.

We have proposed that KNDy (kisspeptin/neurokinin B/dynorphin) neurons contribute to hot flushes via projections to neurokinin 3 receptor (NK3R) expressing neurons in the median preoptic nucleus (MnPO). To characterize the thermoregulatory role of MnPO NK3R neurons in female mice, we ablated these neurons using injections of saporin toxin conjugated to a selective NK3R agonist.

Length-independent telomere damage drives post-mitotic cardiomyocyte senescence.

Ageing is the biggest risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Cellular senescence, a process driven in part by telomere shortening, has been implicated in age-related tissue dysfunction. Here, we address the question of how senescence is induced in rarely dividing/post-mitotic cardiomyocytes and investigate whether clearance of senescent cells attenuates age-related cardiac dysfunction.

Circ-ZNF609 regulates G1-S progression in rhabdomyosarcoma.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a class of covalently closed RNAs, derived from non-canonical splicing events, which are expressed in all eukaryotes and often conserved among different species.

White spot syndrome virus and the caribbean spiny lobster, panulirus argus: susceptibility and behavioral immunity.

The Caribbean spiny lobster Panulirus argus is susceptible to infection by Panulirus argus Virus 1 (PaV1), the only virus known to naturally infect any lobster species. However, P. argus is able to mitigate PaV1 transmission risk by avoiding infected individuals. P. argus may also be susceptible to another lethal virus, White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV).

Functional expression of the mechanosensitive PIEZO1 channel in primary endometrial epithelial cells and endometrial organoids

Successful pregnancy requires the establishment of a complex dialogue between the implanting embryo and the endometrium. Knowledge regarding molecular candidates involved in this early communication process is inadequate due to limited access to primary human endometrial epithelial cells (EEC).

Rift Valley Fever Viral RNA Detection by In Situ Hybridization in Formalin-Fixed, Paraffin-Embedded Tissues.

Sporadic outbreaks of Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), a zoonotic, mosquito-borne Phlebovirus, cause abortion storms and death in sheep and cattle resulting in catastrophic economic impacts in endemic regions of Africa. More recently, with changes in competent vector distribution, growing international trade, and its potential use for bioterrorism, RVFV has become a transboundary animal disease of significant concern.

Mechanically Activated Piezo Channels Mediate Touch and Suppress Acute Mechanical Pain Response in Mice.

Touch and mechanical pain represent distinct, but interactive, modalities of mechanosensation. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these mechanotransduction processes remain incompletely understood. Here, we show that deletion of the mechanically activated and rapidly adapting Piezo2 channel in a portion of the low-threshold mechanoreceptors and a majority of the IB4-positive nociceptors impairs touch but sensitizes mechanical pain in mice.
