RESULTS: Searches returned 10,055 unique titles/abstracts. Of these, 248 were screened at full-text, resulting in the inclusion of 14 studies. Health care providers (HCP) (N = 1622) participated in 11 studies. From the 614 parents included in 7 studies, 203 were reported as birthing mothers and 39 as partners. Studies described suboptimal practices, despite parents’ and HCPs’ intentions to use/advocate for analgesic strategies.

Low dopamine D2 receptor expression drives gene networks related to GABA, cAMP, growth and neuroinflammation in striatal indirect pathway neurons

Background A salient effect of addictive drugs is to hijack the dopamine reward system, an evolutionarily conserved driver of goal-directed behavior and learning. Reduced dopamine type-II receptor (D2R) availability in the striatum is an important pathophysiological mechanism for addiction that is both consequential and causal for other molecular, cellular, and neuronal network differences etiologic for this disorder.

HIV-1 Vpr suppresses expression of the thiazide-sensitive sodium chloride co-transporter in the distal convoluted tubule

HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) impairs functions of both glomeruli and tubules. Attention has been previously focused on the HIVAN glomerulopathy. Tubular injury has drawn increased attention because sodium wasting is common in hospitalized HIV/AIDS patients. We used viral protein R (Vpr)-transgenic mice to investigate the mechanisms whereby Vpr contributes to urinary sodium wasting. In phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase promoter-driven Vpr-transgenic mice, in situ hybridization showed that Vpr mRNA was expressed in all nephron segments, including the distal convoluted tubule.

Introduction L’hypophosphatémie est fréquente (60 %) au cours des hépatites aiguës (HA). Nous démontrons ici qu’elle est secondaire à un diabète phosphaté (DP) et son lien avec le FGF23. Description Nous avons constaté l’existence d’un DP associé à un taux élevé de FGF23 chez des patients atteints d’HA. Leurs biopsies hépatiques ont étés analysées à la recherche d’une production ectopique de FGF23. Nous avons ensuite validé nos résultats à l’aide de deux modèles murins.

Condyloma and coincidental epidermodysplasia verruciformis acanthoma positive for human papillomavirus-14 and -21

Epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EDV) is a rare genodermatosis that predisposes individuals to persistent infection with β-human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes. The term EDV acanthoma may be applied to lesions with incidental findings of EDV-defining histopathological features without clinical signs of EDV.

Tlx3 controls the development of C-low threshold mechanoreceptors

Somatosensory information is signaled by primary sensory neurons located in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) or trigeminal ganglia. Type C-low threshold mechanoreceptors (C-LTMRs) are proposed to sense light touch. The differentiation and maturation of C-LTMRs are regulated by multiple transcript factors, including Zfp521 and Runx1. However, the molecular mechanism of C-LTMR development still remains largely unclear. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to detect transcriptional changes in Tlx3cko DRGs compared to controls. In situ hybridization and RNAscope were used to verify RNA-seq data.

rno-miR-203a-3p and Mex3B contribute to cell survival of iliopsoas muscle via the Socs3-Casp3 axis under severe hypothermia in rats

Forensic diagnosis of fatal hypothermia is considered difficult because no specific findings, such as molecular markers, have been identified. Therefore, determining the molecular mechanism in hypothermia and identifying novel molecular markers to assist in diagnosing fatal hypothermia are important. This study aimed to investigate microRNA (miRNA) and mRNA expression in iliopsoas muscle, which plays a role in homeostasis in mammals, to resolve the molecular mechanism in hypothermia.

The differential immune response in mild versus fatal SARS-CoV2 infection

This study compared the immune response in mild versus fatal SARS-CoV2 infection. Forty nasopharyngeal swabs with either productive mild infection (n = 20) or negative for SARS-CoV2 (n = 20) were tested along with ten lung sections from people who died of COVID-19 which contained abundant SARS-CoV2 and ten controls. There was a 25-fold increase in the CD3+T cell numbers in the viral positive nasopharyngeal swabs compared to the controls (p < 0.001) and no change in the CD3+T cell count in the fatal COVID-19 lungs versus the controls.
