Lipocalin-2 derived from adipose tissue mediates aldosterone-induced renal injury

Lipocalin-2 is not only a sensitive biomarker, but it also contributes to the pathogenesis of renal injuries. The present study demonstrates that adipose tissue-derived lipocalin-2 plays a critical role in causing both chronic and acute renal injuries.

The pituitary gland is a critical organ that is necessary for many physiological processes, including growth, reproduction, and stress response. The secretion of pituitary hormones from specific cell types regulates these essential processes. Pituitary hormone cell types arise from a common pool of pituitary progenitors, and mutations that disrupt the formation and differentiation of pituitary progenitors result in hypopituitarism.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION:

Localized- and diffuse-type tenosynovial giant cell tumours (TGCT) are regarded different clinical and radiological TGCT-types. However, genetically and histopathologically they seem indistinguishable. We aimed to correlate CSF1-expression and CSF1-rearrangement with the biological behaviour of different TGCT-types with clinical outcome (recurrence).

The microenvironment influences cancer drug response and sustains resistance to therapies targeting receptor-tyrosine kinases. However, if and how the tumor microenvironment can be altered during treatment, contributing to resistance onset, is not known. We show that, under prolonged treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), EGFR- or MET-addicted cancer cells displayed a metabolic shift toward increased glycolysis and lactate production.

Transcriptome Analysis and In Situ Hybridization for FcaGHV1 in Feline Lymphoma

Lymphoma is one of the most common malignancies in domestic cats. The lymphomagenic potential of Felis catus gammaherpesvirus 1 (FcaGHV1), a common infection in domestic cats, is unknown. In other species, including humans, cellular transformation by gammaherpesviruses is typically mediated by viral genes expressed during latency. We analysed tumour RNA, from diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCL) appearing in cats coinfected with FcaGHV1 and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) (n = 10). Analysis was done by high throughput transcriptome sequencing and reverse transcription PCR.

Advanced prostate cancer initially responds to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), but the disease inevitably recurs as castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Although CRPC initially responds to abiraterone and enzalutamide, the disease invariably becomes non-responsive to these agents. Novel approaches are required to circumvent resistance pathways and extend survival, but the mechanisms underlying resistance remain poorly defined.

NHE8 deficiency promotes colitis-associated cancer in mice via expansion of Lgr5 expressing cells

Abstract

Background and Aims

Lgr5 overexpression has been detected in colorectal cancers (CRCs), including some cases of colitis-associated CRCs. In colitis-associated CRCs, chronic inflammation is a contributing factor in carcinogenesis. We recently reported that intestinal sodium/hydrogen exchanger isoform 8 (NHE8) plays an important role in intestinal mucosal protection and that loss of NHE8 expression results in ulcerative colitis (UC)-like condition. Therefore, we hypothesized that NHE8 may be involved in the development of intestinal tumors.

Localization of cassava brown streak virus in Nicotiana rustica and cassava Manihot esculenta (Crantz) using RNAscope™ in situ hybridization

BACKGROUND:

Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) has a viral aetiology and is caused by viruses belonging to the genus Ipomovirus (family Potyviridae), Cassava brown streak virus (CBSV) and Ugandan cassava brown streak virus (UCBSV). Molecular and serological methods are available for detection, discrimination and quantification of cassava brown streak viruses (CBSVs) in infected plants. However, precise determination of the viral RNA localization in infected host tissues is still not possible pending appropriate methods.

RESULTS:

HCN as a Mediator of Urinary Homeostasis: Age-Associated Changes in Expression and Function in Adrenergic Detrusor Relaxation

The Hyperpolarization activated, cyclic nucleotide gated (HCN) channel is a candidate mediator of neuroendocrine influence over detrusor tonus during filling. In other tissues, HCN loss with aging is linked to declines in rhythmicity and function. We hypothesized that HCN has an age-sensitive expression profile and functional role in adrenergic bladder relaxation. HCN was examined in bladders from young (2–6 months) and old (18–24 months) C57BL/6 female mice, using qRT-PCR, RNAScope, and Western blots.
