The Cystic Fibrosis-Like Airway Surface Layer Is not a Significant Barrier for Delivery of Eluforsen to Airway Epithelial Cells.

Background: Eluforsen (previously known as QR-010) is a 33-mer antisense oligonucleotide under development for oral inhalation in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with the delta F508 mutation.

Hox gene expression determines cell fate of adult periosteal stem/progenitor cells

Hox genes are evolutionarily conserved transcription factors that during embryonic development function as master regulators of positional identity. In postnatal life, the function of Hox proteins is less clear: Hox genes are expressed during tissue repair, but in this context their function(s) are largely unknown. Here we show that Hox genes are expressed in periosteal stem/progenitor cells in a distribution similar to that during embryonic development.

Molecular and genetic characterization of partial masculinization in embryonic ovaries grafted into male nude mice.

In most of mammalian embryos, gonadal sex differentiation occurs inside the maternal uterus before birth. In several fetal ovarian grafting experiments using male host mice, an experimental switch from the maternal intrauterine to male-host environment gradually induces partial masculinization of the grafted ovaries even under the wild-type genotype. However, either host-derived factors causing or molecular basis underlying this masculinization of the fetal ovaries are not clear.

Znhit1 controls intestinal stem cell maintenance by regulating H2A.Z incorporation.

Lgr5+ stem cells are crucial to gut epithelium homeostasis; however, how these cells are maintained is not fully understood. Zinc finger HIT-type containing 1 (Znhit1) is an evolutionarily conserved subunit of the SRCAP chromosome remodeling complex. Currently, the function of Znhit1 in vivo and its working mechanism in the SRCAP complex are unknown.

LincK contributes to breast tumorigenesis by promoting proliferation and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Increasing evidence has demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play a role in the construction of tumor microenvironments. Co-culture between tumor cells and MSCs provides an easy and useful platform for mimicking tumor microenvironments and identifying the important members involved in tumor progress. The long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to regulate different tumorigenic processes. In this study, we aimed to examine functional lncRNA deregulations associated with breast cancer malignancy instigated by MSC-MCF-7 co-culture.

Clinicopathological features of HCV-positive splenic diffuse large B cell lymphoma.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a single-stranded RNA virus which is thought to be involved in the onset of B cell lymphoma. HCV-positive diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) has been reported to clinically manifest in extranodal lesions (e.g., in the liver, spleen, and stomach). Here, we investigated HCV-positive and -negative primary splenic DLBCL (p-spDLBCL) and non-primary splenic DLBCL (ordinary DLBCL).
